BACKGROUND
Procedural Coders Institute (PCI) working through the University of California, San Diego
Extension's Department of Healthcare Continuing Education (UCSD) is a full training and
certification business that offers an off-site state of the art coding and compliance education
program for all government healthcare organizations and military facilities within the
continental United States and overseas to enhance the professional competency of coders
and physician providers. Along with providing the above training, PCI is a full service
business that offers medical transcription, billing, auditing, compliance review and coding

PCI is a minority business by virtue of being 100% woman-owned and operated, and is
certified both as a Small Business by the State of California Department of General
Services (DGS) and as a Small Disadvantaged Business by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
It is headquartered in Chula Vista, California with subsidiaries in San Diego and Los Angeles.
To date, PCI has provided this Medical Coding education to Government agencies
such as the United States Air Force physician providers and coding staff throughout
the entire European sector, and the United States Department of Human Health and Service -
Indian Health Services and Tribal facility sites throughout the United States, including
Alaska.
Additionally, coding certification classes and subsequent continuing education seminars
have been provided for the above mentioned I.H.S. and Tribal Facilities, as well as interested
individual participants.
LEVEL OF COMPETENCY:
PCI is comprised of highly professional and skilled staff members. All members are
certified Coders through the AAPC and members of the American Health Information Management
Association (AHIMA), and are recognized as experts in the health care coding, compliance,
transcription and billing area. The PCI staff has over 70 years of combined experience in the
health care industry. The excellence comes from former Accounts Receivable managers, Business
Office Managers, PCC Data Entry and billing staff, as well as Attorneys. This, coupled with our
past and present contracts with Indian Health Service, enhances our ability not only to deliver
the requested services, but also to function as a support system for all staff members of the
individual Indian Health Service and Tribal facility sites.
